On March 10, 2026, 16 third country nationals were deported to Moldova, including roughly 10 Russians and several nationals of Eastern European countries. The individuals were permitted to stay in Moldova for 90 days without a visa. Some of these individuals have decided to stay in Moldova for the time being and others have returned to their countries of origin. On April 30, 2026, a second group of Russians were sent to Moldova on an ICE flight tracked by ICE Flight Monitor, though no additional information is known about their transfers. As of early 2026, following Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Moldova hosts nearly 140,000 Ukrainian refugees—more per capita than any other country. The government of Moldova has offered temporary protection to Ukrainians through March 2027, allowing refugees to stay legally and access jobs and education.
